With my mother being a hair stylist running her own studio, she has a plethora of clients with a variety of backgrounds. Many have been loyal clients for decades. For example, Julie Darling. Julie has been getting her hair done by my mother for almost 20 years, that is 2/3 of my life.
My mom often times tells us weekly anecdotes about what clients came in and the stories she heard each week. Almost playing the part of 50% hair stylist and 50% therapist. Julie would frequently come up in these weekly conversations, my mom would explain how much she enjoyed when Julie would get her hair done, Tom regularly tagging along. My mother would also reference Tom and Julie's children and how great they were.
That is where No Sleeper comes in.
We reached out to Tom and Julie on a Tuesday, and by following Saturday we were welcomed into their home to listen to their stories about parenting and partnership.
The days leading up to the interview were filled with getting gear ready, ordering new gear, clearing memory cards, and Ramsay getting a sourdough loaf prepped. I had to order a new tripod for our B cam, we decided to use a different one this time. This also needed a new memory card.
The Saturday morning of the interview, Ramsay, Quincey, and I went for a walk to discuss what we wanted the day to progress into. With a 1pm interview, this gave us time to make a nice breakfast after the walk and also for Ramsay to bake her famous sourdough as a thank you to Tom and Julie.
I forgot to mention, Julie had one request for the interview. To bring Quincey so they could meet her. We learned from our previous interviews, that as much as we want Quincey to be apart of everything, she can also cause a ruckus (that's our baby<3). We had another idea, with the help of my awesome mother. We decided to bring Quincey until we got started with the interview. She got to meet the Darlings and once we proceeded with the questions, my beautiful mother took her back to babysit. Which is fine with Quincey because she is obsessed with Grandma.
This was our first "real" interview with someone else's parents. They had a wonderful home decorated with fall and halloween decorations, Ramsay loved every second of. They were sat together in their living room which was the perfect setup. We got Tom and Julie mic'd up and got our cam's positioned. Made sure the audio was working and we were off to the races.
The interview was a success, even some tears were shed. Although we are not mormon, we believe everyone has their story to tell, No Sleeper is simply here to share it. I believe this is just a testament of how much these interviews mean not only to us, but the guests who are being interviewed. A majority of us most likely have not talked about these topics in years, so we believe it is just as satisfying for the parents to speak about these things.
The interview was followed by more wonderful stories from The Darlings as well as selecting various photos Julie had saved for us to use for their story. We then packed up our gear, gave hugs goodbye and were on our way to eat pizza with Quincey, my mom, and brother.
Our first interview with other parent's was a success. Julie even reaching out the next day expressing how wonderful it was and how much they enjoyed the time spent, as well as the bangin' loaf of sourdough Ramsay made. I reciprocated our gratitude for letting us strangers into their home with microphones and cameras to ask them a bunch of questions.
